Emmanuel Adebayor’s return to Manchester City is in the hands of the Togolese FA, FIFA rules have confirmed.

Togo decided to withdraw from the African Nations Cup following an attack on their team coach which left three of the non-playing staff dead.

FIFA have since stated that players are free to return to their respective clubs when the country’s FA allows.

FIFA rules read: "A player who has been called up by his association for one of its representative teams is, unless otherwise agreed by the relevant association, not entitled to play for the club with which he is registered during the period for which he has been released."

In theory, Adebayor could be ready to play for the Citizens in their next game against Everton at the weekend.

City boss Roberto Mancini has already declared that there is no rush for the striker to return to the City of Manchester Stadium and that it is up to the player to determine his availability for selection.
