Everton's Moyes: Donovan Has "Something To Prove"
The Everton coach expects a lot from his new signing.
Everton coach David Moyes seems glad to have the signing of Landon Donovan completed, as he believes he has brought in a player who is hungry for success.
As reported in the Daily Mirror, Moyes said of Major League Soccer's MVP: "This is someone who isn’t prepared to rest on his laurels despite being considered America’s best player. He knows that his past experiences in European football were perhaps a little disappointing for him."
Donovan signed a loan deal with Everton that sees him returning to MLS for the start of the season, but Moyes believes Donovan can be effective despite the limited length of the arrangement.
"He’s joining us with a little something to prove," Moyes said.
The coach also believed that the World Cup group draw against England gave Donovan a little extra motivation for his stint in England. "He won’t just be learning about life in the Premier League, he’ll be learning about some of the players he’ll be facing in the World Cup and that knowledge could be crucial to him in South Africa."
Though he thinks highly of Donovan, Moyes isn't giving the American any free chances.
"I’ve told him there will be no guarantees he’ll walk into my side, but he accepts that and wants the challenge."
