Terry: Chelsea First Team Let Down Youngsters
Poor performance inhibited chance for youth.
Chelsea's lionhearted leader John Terry feels the more experienced Blues let-down the club's younger stars during the Stamford Bridge outfit's underwhelming midweek 2-2 tie with Cypriot minnows APOEL Nicosia in the final Champions League group game.
Terry claims there were multiple chances during the second half to secure the win, and in so doing, would have granted manager Carlo Ancelotti the opportune moment to bring on the burgeoning stars waiting obligingly on the bench, all of whom were eager for a European cameo.
"The second half performance on Tuesday wasn't good enough for any Chelsea player," the defender candidly revealed on the club's official website, www.chelseafc.com.
"We had chances to kill that game," said Terry. "For me games like that, we want to bring young players through and had them on the bench, it was a chance to go 3-1, 4-1 up, we had the chances, and then to bring the young lads on.
"Danny Philliskirk who's done well, Jeffrey Bruma, they deserve their chance and didn't get it because the first-team lads let them down, and the fans and themselves.
"Now we need to bounce back at the weekend and go again."
