Everton Close In On January Deal For Landon Donovan
Moyes looks to strengthen squad with USA international.
Everton manager David Moyes is close to agreeing a deal that will bring Los Angeles Galaxy's USA international Landon Donovan to Goodison Park in January, Goal.com UK understands.
A source close to the club has said that Moyes’ has been looking to sign an additional midfielder for a while, and was informed of Donovan’s potential availability by USA teammate, Tim Howard.
The 27-year-old who can play in midfield and up front, is likely to join the Toffees initially on loan, with a view to a permanent transfer should he impress during his spell at the club.
Donovan is believed to be keen on another chance to prove himself in a major European league after struggling to impress in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich.
Moyes is eager to add reinforcements to his squad with injury having hit Everton very hard this season.
Aiyegbeni Yakubu is not yet back to his best after an 11-month lay-off, whilst Louis Saha continues to struggle with the usual niggles. James Vaughan and Victor Anichebe are also injured, whilst influential midfielder Mikel Arteta is a long-term absentee.
