Tevez: Henry Told Me To Join Arsenal
Argentine reveals how 'Titi' tried to Gun him down.
Manchester City forward Carlos Tevez has claimed that Thierry Henry attempted to lure him to Arsenal, back when the Frenchman was still captain of the Gunners.
Then at West Ham United following his controversial move from Corinthians in the summer of 2006, Tevez was struggling for starts as the Irons slumped toward relegation.
The Argentine would go on to save the east London club with a string of match-winning displays at the end of the season that earned him a move to Manchester United, but insists he had other admirers long before.
Tevez said in The Mirror: “When I was left on the bench at West Ham and we were playing Arsenal, Thierry Henry bumped into me in the car park afterwards.
“He said, ‘Hey, what are you doing here? Come and play with us - it’s incredible that you can’t get a game in this team.’”
The 25-year-old's future remains a constant source of debate, as his off-season move from Old Trafford to Eastlands has essentially seen him trade one bench for another.
Recent reports even suggested that the former Boca Juniors star was considering retirement - claims that Man City boss Mark Hughes was quick to douse.
Tevez is unconcerned, however, and stresses that he will continue to work hard in the hope of securing a starting spot.
“Having got this far in my career, fighting for my place doesn’t bother me. I’m used to it. I’ve had it at all the big clubs I’ve played for,” he said.
“At Boca, Corinthians, West Ham, United and City, it's normal for there to be lots of good strikers. I never let my head drop. The harder the challenge, the more effort I put in to win a place. That’s what I am doing here.”
