Frank Lampard Out Of England's Blockbuster With Brazil
Chelsea man is the latest withdrawal.
Chelsea's Frank Lampard has dealt England boss Fabio Capello another blow by becoming the latest in a long line of withdrawals from the England squad to face Brazil in Qatar this Saturday.
"We can confirm that Frank Lampard picked up an injury to his left thigh whilst training today and will be returning home this evening," said an FA spokesman. "There will be no further call-ups to the squad."
Capello was already without several members of the squad after Liverpool's Glen Johnson withdrew on Tuesday, before Lampard picked up a thigh injury in training.
England are now without regulars Rio Ferdinand, Steven Gerrard, Ashley Cole, David James, Theo Walcott, David Beckham and Aaron Lennon as well as Johnson and Lampard.
Wes Brown is favorite to replace Johnson at right-back, being the only recognized right-sided defender in the squad with Aston Villa's Luke Young rejecting the chance to come out of international retirement, although James Milner could also prove his versatility by moving back into defense.
Manchester United's Michael Carrick could step in for Lampard, and Chelsea will be hoping that his injury is nothing serious having recently seen both Jose Bosingwa and Ashley Cole succumb to injury.
