Moyes Upbeat On Everton's Chances Of EL Qualification
Moyes is still upbeat on his side's qualification hopes.
Having seen his side beaten by Benfica twice in two weeks, Everton boss David Moyes remained upbeat about his side’s chances of qualification for the last 32 of the Europa League.
"We hope so," was the response at his post match press conference when asked if he thought his charges would qualify.
"We have tough games coming up and we knew the group was never going to be easy and it will prove that way, I am sure."
Without being overly critical, the Scot did acknowledge his side were below par against a good Benfica side.
"I think Benfica are a good side and it was a tough game but it was tighter than the last one," continued the manager.
"We became a little open in the second half, maybe trying to score, and we got done on the counter for the first goal. We still had four defenders back though, and the goals weren't like the goals in Benfica."
He pointed to a lack of personnel and confidence when trying to explain his side's lack of goal threat at home to the Portuguese side.
"Tonight we did lack quality [going forward]," he continued. "But we knew that before the game, it wasn't something that surprised us.
"We are trying to talk about the players in the team and give them some confidence and some of them did okay, there were one or two good performances."
