Liverpool Captain Steven Gerrard Doubtful For Fulham Match
'El Nino', meanwhile, nears full fitness.
Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard is a serious doubt for Saturday's match against Fulham after responding slowly to treatment for his recurrent groin complaint.
The midfielder sustained the injury while on England duty three weeks ago, and lasted only 25 minutes in his comeback game against Lyon in the Champions League last week before being forced off.
Manager Rafael Benitez had hoped that Gerrard would be fit enough to feature against the London club, but said that while Fernando Torres is likely to recover from a similar injury, his captain was still a major doubt.
According to The Daily Mail, Benitez said: "Both have to keep going. Gerrard is still working with the physio so we will see. Hopefully, Torres will be OK, but for Gerrard maybe it is more difficult."
Both The Daily Mail and The Daily Telegraph report that Gerrard's slow recovery has the Liverpool coaching staff scratching their heads, and they may be forced to resort to surgery if the Reds captain continues to fail to respond to treatment.
