Report: Pepe Reina Rewarded With New Liverpool Contract
The keeper has been offered a new deal at the Reds.
Liverpool are set to reward Pepe Reina's solid form between the sticks by offering him a new contract and a significant payraise, The Times reports.
Reina - who joined Liverpool from Villarreal in the summer of 2005 for £6 million - has firmly establish himself as one of the leading goalkeepers in the Premier League, winning the Golden Glove award for most clean sheets in three of the past four seasons.
Still only 27, the Spanish shot-stopper's current deal does not run out till 2012, yet the Reds are set to offer him a further two-year extension - and improved salary - that will see him remain at the club until 2014.
It is also claimed that defender Fabio Aurelio is presently engaged in contract talks.
The 30-year-old Brazilian, though not a regular starter, is a highly rated member of the squad, and Rafael Benitez - who has used his former Valencia charge in a variety of roles in recent times - is keen for him to stay.
Aurelio's contract is due to expire at the end of the season.
