Report: Sir Alex Ferguson To Write Letter Of Apology To FA
Red Devils' boss in last-ditch attempt to avoid serious sanctions.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will write to the FA this week in a final attempt to avoid stringent punishment for his outburst blasting the fitness of referee Alan Wiley.
Ferguson angrily asserted that the official wasn't physically fit enough to make correct decisions in the wake of his team's 2-2 home draw with Sunderland.
The remarks have angered many within the game, particularly referees' union Prospect, who yesterday insisted that Ferguson's previous 'apology' was "half-hearted" and actually exacerbated the situation.
They also called for stiff penalties for Ferguson, perhaps along the lines of a UEFA coaching ban.
Ferguson will write to the FA this week, according to The Manchester Evening News, when he returns from holiday in America, and make a final appeal to avoid punishment.
