Arsenal left-back Gael Clichy is determined to oust Manchester United's Patrice Evra from the France line-up and hold down a regular spot with Les Bleus.

Clichy has won only two full caps for his country, despite being repeatedly hailed as one of the best young defenders in Europe.

He continues to face stiff competition for a place in the national side, but is prepared to bide his time.

"It was difficult at the start because there was first (Eric) Abidal and then Evra," he told Sky Sports.

"The coach is asking me to push Evra to make him play better and that is what I am doing – but to be honest with you, I want his position.

"It is difficult – he plays in a very good team and has started the season well, so I have to bide my time."
