Hughes: Manchester United Defender Neville Was 'A Lunatic'
Red Devil was raving according to Citizen Hughes.
Manchester City manager Mark Hughes has claimed that Manchester United defender Gary Neville acted like "a lunatic" as he celebrated Michael Owen's injury time winner for the Red Devils in yesterday's derby thriller at Old Trafford.
Owen scored the clincher in a 4-3 win for United deep into injury time, prompting Neville, a substitute on the day who was warming up along the touchline, to celebrate wildly on the pitch before running over to the corner of the ground housing the City support.
And Hughes feels that there was a touch of insanity to his behaviour that showed just how much it meant to United to win the game. The City manager recalled a similarly wild on-pitch celebration from Brian Kidd and Alex Ferguson at the end of a game against Sheffield Wednesday in 1993 on their way to their first league title with the Old Trafford outfit.
"I saw Gary Neville running off like a lunatic," The Sporting Life reports Hughes as saying.
"What I saw reminded me of Sir Alex and Brian Kidd. It shows what it meant to them. It shows we can compete.
"We came back three times and showed great quality and character as a team."
