Despite a fantastic performance in yesterday's 5-1 victory over Croatia, pacy Tottenham Hotspur right winger Aaron Lennon understands there's still much work to be done if he is to earn England manager Fabio Capello's trust ahead of this summer's World Cup.

Lennon got the start against Croatia and made the most of his opportunity, but with several months left until the tournament begins, the 22-year-old will have to fight off competition from David Beckham, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Theo Walcott for a first-team role.

"There are so many quality players within the squad and so many not even here. When you have your chance you have to take it," said Lennon.

He then added: "Shauny Wright has played great recently so just to get the nod was brilliant for me."

The former Leeds United trainee has flourished under Spurs boss Harry Redknapp and has been in superb form for his club during the early part of the Premier League season.

"I've been trying to mix my game up," Lennon explained. "It is down to experience and looking at how defenders have been trying to mark me out of a game.

"I've been mixing everything - trying different types of crosses, cutting inside and shooting with my left, going outside. Just mixing it up."
