The Dutch defender has apparently sealed his switch to Merseyside today.
The Dutchman has signed a five-year deal, after a whirlwind day in which he passed a medical and agreed personal terms.
The defender, who can play anywhere along the back line or in a defensive midfield role, will wear Joleon Lescott's old number 5 shirt for the Blues.
The player was happy to sign for the club, according to Sky Sports News, with a compromise from both Heitinga and the club with regard to the player's wages.
