Hughes: Manchester City's Lescott Is The Best Central Defender In The EPL
'Sparky' believes that he now has the best central defender in the league, following his £22 million splurge.
Manchester City manager Mark Hughes is of the opinion that Joleon Lescott, who was recently signed from Everton for £22 million, is the best central defender in England's top flight.
"Joleon is arguably the best centre-half in the Premier League and can be for a number of years," Hughes is quoted by ESPNStar as saying.
"Some transfers are completed relatively quickly, others take longer. This has been one of the latter cases but the fact we kept pushing for it is indicative of my view on the player."
The player explained the reason behind his move, claiming that the Eastlands club is in a better position to take a leap upwards than cash-strapped Everton.
"Everyone outside the top four are aiming for the same thing, but I think Manchester City are more equipped to get there faster than Everton," he added.
"That is why I made the change."
