Rio Ferdinand Targets Manchester United Return In Two Weeks

The England international could be fit to face Spurs.

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has asserted that he could be ready to make his return to action slightly sooner than expected, as he recovers from a muscle tear in his thigh sustained during training prior to the Red Devils' Premier League opener against Birmingham City.

The centre-back will definitely not play in England's World Cup qualifier with Croatia on September 12, but has targeted his club's clash with Tottenham Hotspur three days later.

"I'm improving - I'm a bit ahead of schedule," he told Sky Sports.

"I've been training really hard the last few days.

"I'm not where I want to be obviously on the pitch, but in a couple of weeks I'll be back on the pitch playing again."

That news will come as a boost to United boss Alex Ferguson, as Jonny Evans faces surgery soon on an ankle problem.

Ferguson was handed a similarly positive piece of news today, when the FA decided that Nemanja Vidic would face no disciplinary action over his alleged slapping of Hugo Rodallega in last weekend's game with Wigan Athletic.
