Tranmere Rovers Put Up For Sale On eBay
The League One outfit was set to be auctioned off on the popular website by a broker.
English League One side Tranmere Rovers were put up for sale on the popular auction website eBay. The move to sale the club came from majority owner Peter Johnson who has been looking to offload his shares for some time in an attempt to retire from the game.
Johnson hired a broker, Dornoch Capital, to make the deal not knowing that the U.S. based firm would place his shares on the web auction block.
"We were appalled," Johnson told Telegraph.co.uk. "It's totally inappropriate. We immediately emailed them and said 'Take it off right away.'"
The club was being marketed as a historic brand with no debt and potential for promotion, with the opening price tag set at $10 million dollars, but Johnson was upset by the message it sent to Rovers fans.
"It's not a second-hand bike we're selling," he said. "One has to think of the supporter and the ability to run the club."
The post lasted less than a day on the auction block before being taken down.
