thumbnail Hello,

Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona shared the points in an entertaining encounter at Wembley.

Tottenham Hotspur 1 - 1 Barcelona

Jake Livermore came off the bench to earn Tottenham Hotspur a draw in the Wembley Cup encounter against Barcelona after Bojan Krkic had put the Catalan side ahead.

The Spurs youngster had been on the pitch just two minutes when he met a cross from Benoit Assou-Ekotto to nod home and ensure that his side secured a point in the opening game of the tournament.

A Barcelona side containing fringe players and youngsters began the game and Pep Guardiola swapped all eleven at the break in their first pre-season outing.

Tottenham were without any first choice central defenders and Darren Bent and Roman Pavlyuchenko were unavailable at the other end, but Barca only had Eric Abidal, Toure Yaya and Bojan Krkic as first-team regulars in their side.

It was the Catalans that came close early on as Pedro saw a low drive superbly tipped away by Carlo Cudicini, but there was little that the keeper could do to stop Bojan Krkic in the 33rd minute.

The Catalan youngster stroked in from six yards out, but it was Toure's stunning run past several Spurs players that took him into the area before Tom Huddlestone's tackle pushed the ball into Bojan's path.

Cudicini was on form again just before the interval as Victor Sanchez took aim from distance and forced the Italian custodian to palm his shot away for a corner.

Moments before the break Luka Modric hit the crossbar and as the ball came back out Assou-Ekotto saw his drive tipped over by Albert Jorquera.

With a completely new team to start the second half, Barcelona maintained their familiar passing style and Tottenham's changes lifted their side and allowed them push forward.

Jeffren Suarez and Oriol had chances to add to Barca's tally, but it was a Tottenham youngster that earned the headlines as Jake Livermore netted just two minutes after coming on.

Assou-Ekotto received a short corner and his center saw the Spurs midfielder reach the ball ahead of Jose Manuel Pinto and nod home the equaliser.

On Sunday Barcelona take on Al-Ahly and Tottenham face Celtic in the second round of matches of the Wembley Cup.
