Dunne Pleased Barry Has Joined Manchester City
The Citizens skipper has expressed satisfaction that the club is targeting high quality recruits such as the England midfielder.
Manchester City captain Richard Dunne, currently away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland, has reacted positively to his club's capture today of Gareth Barry, who has moved north from Aston Villa in a deal reportedly worth £12 million.
Some observers have opined that this could spell the end for Dunne's tenure as captain, as Barry has built the reputation during his 12-year spell at Villa Park as a splendid skipper.
However, the Irishman, speaking to reporters at a press conference at his country's training camp, seemed pleased with the signing, saying, "I think any player of his quality will fit in.
"He's obviously been linked with Liverpool over the last year or so, so he is a top-quality player and I think that's what the manager's been looking to bring in.
"Hopefully he can be a member of the squad who can push us further up the league."
It looks like it will a busy summer for the Citizens, who have been reported as making a transfer kitty of £250 million available to manager Mark Hughes.
