Sir Alex Hails Current Manchester United Squad As His Best Ever
Ahead of some tricky selection decisions for the weekend's trip to Hull, the Scotsman thinks that whomever he picks will do well.
Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson is seemingly suffering little anxiety about just which line-up to select when his club face Hull City at the KC Stadium on Sunday. United fly out to Rome the day after the Premier League's concluding fixture, and many would perhaps expect the manager to be nibbling his fingernails in anxiety at the prospect of potential injuries to key men.
That isn't Ferguson's style, though, and the iron-willed Scot thinks that he has so much quality at his disposal, that all his players, even the youngest amongst them, are trusted to put in a winning performance.
“This is the best squad I’ve ever had," he beamed to MUTV. "I could have picked two teams against Arsenal last week, and I’ll be picking a team on Sunday against Hull that will reflect that strength.
"We have a fantastic squad of around 28 or 29 players now, which includes the likes of [Federico] Macheda, [Danny] Welbeck, [Rodrigo] Possebon, [Darron] Gibson, Rafael and Fabio. They are young but they’re very, very good players, and good characters, too. I think that gives us a back-up that we’ve never had before."
The game could present a tough challenge for United, who confirmed their status as champions once more with a goalless home draw with Arsenal last Saturday, as Hull will be giving their all to stave off the threat of relegation. The Tigers are currently one point ahead of Newcastle United in the battle to beat the drop.
