Young Convinced Agbonlahor Will Come Good For Aston Villa

The England defender says it's only a matter of time until Gabby starts banging them in again.

Gabriel Agbonlahor - Aston Villa
Luke Young has little doubt that his misfiring Aston Villa team-mate Gabriel Agbonlahor will hit high gear again sooner rather than later.

The England Under-21 striker has been in something of a rut of late, having scored just once in his last 16 club appearances. What is worse, he recently suffered the indignity of being roundly jeered by a section of Villa fans as he was substituted during the recent 2-1 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Martin O'Neill was quick to express his dismay at the treatment handed out to the homegrown talent, his sentiments being echoed by much of the Villa faithful.

This included Young, who told PA Sport, "Early on in the season everything that Gabby touched in front of goal was going in but also you get runs where you can't find the back of the net.

"No matter however hard you try and however hard you work, it sometimes just won't happen for you.

"But it will turn for Gabby. You've just got to keep getting yourself in the right positions and I am sure the goals will come again soon.

"He is a top striker who has forced his way into the England squad this season."

Moving on to the subject of the Villans' suddenly labored charge for the lucrative fourth Champions League spot, Young said, "We are not playing as well as we have done and the results are showing that. We've got to regroup a bit.

"There are eight massive games left now and I am sure the manager will be having a look at some things that haven't gone quite so well."
