Mascherano: England Will Excel Under Fabio Capello
The Argentina international is backing the Italian manager to get the best out of the Three Lions.
Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano is tipping England to perform well at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa as he feels that manager Fabio Capello will get them playing to their true potential.
The Argentina international has suggested that the Three Lions, who failed to qualify for Euro 2008 and have not reached a semi-final since Euro 1996, have underachieved considering the players at their disposal.
Although he admitted that English clubs' success in the Champions League may be as a result of the quality of their foreign players, he insists that England have plenty of world class stars.
"The fact the Premier League is the best in the world is down to several things, but especially because great players from other countries come here," Mascherano is quoted as saying in The Sunday Mirror.
"What I don't understand is why England doesn't do better. They have a very good squad. Just look at [John] Terry, [Rio] Ferdinand, [Steven] Gerrard, [Frank] Lampard, Ashley Cole, [Shaun] Wright-Phillips, [Wayne] Rooney.
"That is a lot of top players. Under Capello they'll show their quality in South Africa."
