The Cottagers boss was delighted with his team's battling qualities at the Reebok Stadium this afternoon.

Fulham manager Roy Hodgson admits he felt a sense of relief at his side's 3-1 win over Bolton Wanderers this afternoon.

The Cottagers took the lead late in the first half when striker Andy Johnson took advantage of some dubious defending to find the back of the net on 42 minutes.

This lead was cut out almost immediately when just three minutes later Kevin Davies scored his 50th goal for the Trotters to equalize for the home side.

Hodgson's side regained the lead in the second half when a Simon Davies shot just crept over the line to put the away side in front.

The win was secured two minutes from time when Diomansy Kamara drilled a low shot past Jussi Jaaskelainen in the Bolton goal.

After the game, Hodgson was clearly pleased with his team's performance.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Hodgson said, "There's a sense of relief, and of pride. I thought we played very well today.

"We dealt with Bolton's long-ball game reasonably well and restricted their chances to an absolute minimum, and then our passing play created chances and we converted three of them.

"We conceded a goal in first-half injury time and that could have been a fatal blow to our confidence, but the players took it in their stride.

"You've got to earn the right to play your football but, when you do get the ball, there's no need for you necessarily to play the ball long. You can play it through the midfield and that's what we tried to do today."

The result leaves Fulham still chasing European football for next year, with the Cottagers currently sitting in 9th place in the Premier League table.
