David Beckham is counting on his former club Manchester United to win the hotly anticipated title showdown against Liverpool this weekend and then go on to lift the Premier League trophy.

The air is already charged ahead of Saturday's mouthwatering clash and Beckham knows all about the intense levels of anticipation and expectation which precede a grudge match between the two historic rivals.

Beckham told Sky Sports News, "As a Manchester United fan to beat Liverpool it's something special.

"I was lucky to be on the good end of a team that went to Anfield and beat them there and at Old Trafford.

"Liverpool are playing well but Manchester United are playing incredibly well and have a great squad, they have some of the best players in the world.

"So for me, as a fan, Manchester United will win the league this season.

"Obviously it's not over yet but the way they're playing, with the players and manager they have, it's incredible."

The Red Devils are currently seven points clear of their arch-rivals and victory at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon would push them ahead by ten, with a game in hand.
