Report: Hiddink Wants Zhirkov At Chelsea

The Blues' interim boss has hinted at a long-term stay in London by setting his sights on 'Russia's Ronaldinho'.

RPL: Yuri Zhirkov - CSKA
UK tabloid The Daily Mail claims that Guus Hiddink has advised his higher-ups at Chelsea to move for CSKA Moscow star Yuri Zhirkov in the summer.

The 25-year-old has attracted significant interest from some of the world's heavyweight clubs since his impressive showing with Hiddink's Russia at EURO 2008.

Juventus and Barcelona are keeping a close eye on the tricky, versatile winger, who has also been linked with the Pensioners in the not-too-distant past.

Hiddink is an avid admirer of Zhirkov, and it is understood that he has told Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich to splash out on the Tambov native and his teenage club-mate, Alan Dzagoev.

As the Dutchman is only contracted at Stamford Bridge until the end of the season, this news could be taken as a hint that he would consider staying on next term if Abramovich promises certain signings.

However, this is nothing more than paper talk at the minute, and Hiddink stated recently that he plans to retire from coaching after the 2010 World Cup.
