Report: Chelsea Want Pennant And Bentley
Big Phil is looking to lighten his side's injury blues by drafting in a new winger this winter.
According to The Sun, Chelsea are pondering over a possible loan deal for either Liverpool's Jermaine Pennant or Tottenham Hotspur's David Bentley.
The Blues are lacking depth on the flanks after Joe Cole was ruled out for the season with ligament damage sustained in last week's FA Cup replay with Southend United.
As Shaun Wright-Phillips exited Stamford Bridge last summer, Florent Malouda, Salomon Kalou and the inexperienced Miroslav Stoch are the only wingers left in Luiz Felipe Scolari's squad.
And as the Blues board have given their manager very little spending money this January, Scolari hopes they will at least allow him to hire a temporary replacement or two.
Pennant is thought to be the Brazilian's preference. However, the 26-year-old is on the verge of joining Portsmouth after being courted by Real Madrid, AC Milan and Sevilla.
Bentley, on the other hand, might be more feasible. The England winger has struggled since moving to White Hart Lane last summer and wouldn't be terribly missed if he shot off across London for a few months.
However, this is nothing more than paper talk at present, and it remains to be seen whether Chelsea make any approach for either of these players.
