David Moyes: Everton Don't Fear Liverpool

The Toffees boss has backed his players to put on a spirited display against their cross-town rivals tonight.

Everton will take on Liverpool this evening in the first of their back-to-back trips to Anfield, as they will meet again next weekend in the FA Cup fourth round.

The Reds will be eager to replicate their 2-0 triumph at Goodison Park earlier in the season, after Manchester United knocked them off the top of the Premier League table.

A win for Rafa Benitez's men would them reclaim first place, but Blues boss David Moyes has confidence that his in-form players can make amends for recent derby disappointments.

"We have not played well in the last few games against Liverpool as we have not reached the levels we should have, so we are now looking forward to this match," the Scot said in The Daily Mail

"I am quite relaxed because I see how well the players are doing, how well they are performing. If they can go and show their potential, they have certainly nothing to fear."

American Tim Howard protects Everton's goal, and his solid season at the position could be part of the reason Moyes is confident.

"I want our supporters to see us perform well - the players are confident and playing well," Moyes said. "They work hard together, that is always the way here, and there is a great spirit.

"But that spirit comes from winning on the pitch, pushing each other hard and demanding from each other. That is something they are achieving."

Everton currently sit sixth in the standings after winning seven of their last eight league fixtures, and people are starting to whisper about a potential Champions League place.

Moyes has encouraged such talk, as he believes his squad can go on to achieve great things this season if they maintain their current form.

"The players are comfortable and enjoying their football. They are passing it well and creating chances," he said.

"All those sort of things are giving us a great deal of belief we can reach the heights in games to come."
