Report: Madrid Make New Bid For Antonio Valencia

Los Blancos could be on the verge of closing the deal for their remaining transfer target, Antonio Valencia after they reportedly tabled a new bid to Wigan.

After speculation emerged earlier in the week that Real Madrid were prepared to throw in unwanted fringe striker, Javier Saviola as bait to tempt Wigan Athletic to release winger, Antonio Valencia, the Spanish giants have now reportedly made the bid official.

According to Ecuadorian newspaper, El Comercio [The Commerce], Los Blancos yesterday submitted an offer of €12 million plus Saviola to the English side, bringing the total cash amount to €17.5 million, the asking price set by Wigan manager, Steve Bruce.

Neither Madrid nor Wigan have yet to confirm these reports but British paper, The Telegraph had previously reported that both Wigan and Everton were interested in taking ‘The Rabbit’ on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

Saviola has been a mere back-up striker, playing no more than 16% of the available match minutes ever since he arrived at the Santiago Bernabéu in July of 2007 following a free transfer from arch rivals, Barcelona.
