Wayne Bridge Fit For Fratton Park Visit
New Citizen Wayne Bridge is in line to make his debut this weekend against south coast club Portsmouth.
Hull City were on the wrong side of a 5-1 mauling on Boxing Day, in a performance that tamed the Tigers, leaving them de-clawed, and thoroughly defeated.
Even Arsenal succumbed to a 3-0 whipping when the two sides met at the City of Manchester Stadium in November.
Going back further in the fixture list, Portsmouth - in the reverse tie in September - were well and truly embarrassed as they were hit for six.
Building From The Back
It is little wonder that City are keen to start their winter window spending by strengthening the rearguard before they supplement their firepower.
New recruit Wayne Bridge, who signed from Chelsea on January 2 for a £10 million fee, is in line for his debut on Saturday, and the 28-year old couldn't be happier.
"I’m fit," he declared to the club's official website, "I train hard and after a few games I’ll be even fitter. I train hard and I’d like to think I can play 90 minutes whenever the boss wants me to play."
Manager Mark Hughes said: "Wayne
is one of the top left-backs not only in this country, but in Europe as
well.
"He is an undoubted talent and has proved that over many seasons in the Premier League. We are fortunate to be able to bring him here."
