Wenger Dismisses Arteta Link; Coy On Arshavin
The Gunners chief denies making any approach for Mikel Arteta, but offers an ambiguous answer to the Arshavin link.
The two biggest names that Arsenal have been linked with thus far in the
winter window have been Everton's Mikel Arteta, and Zenit's Andrei
Arshavin.
Given the long-term lay-off of influential Spaniard and recently-installed captain Cesc Fabregas, a playmaking and attack-minded midfielder has been regarded as a must-buy for the Gunners, in order to provide Arsenal with some support for their strikers.
In a press conference earlier today, though, Arsene Wenger told journalists that there had been no inquiry made for Mikel Arteta. But he was rather coy about the link to want-away forward Arshavin.
"Mikel Arteta is a very good player but we have not made any inquiry about him at all," Wenger said.
"There is no progress [on Arshavin].
"If there is any progress made you will be informed, I promise you. If we buy a player you will be informed."
One player linked with an Emirates exit is Kolo Toure who, if press rumours are to be believed, will be the subject of a £10 million bid from Manchester City.
