Fulham and Chelsea shared out a four goal thriller at Craven Cottage this afternoon. Carlo Garganese rates the performers on the pitch.
Schwarzer – 6: A mixed afternoon for the Aussie, who pulled off a string of excellent saves from Anelka, Lampard and Joe Cole, but was at fault for both of Chelsea's goals.
Paintsil – 6.5: Held his own defensively, and was Fulham's best attacking outlet down the right hand side for much of the game.
Hughes – 4.5: A very difficult afternoon for Hughes, who could not cope with Drogba's power, and collided with Schwarzer for Lampard's first goal.
Hangeland – 6.5: A beast in the air, as he won everything he went up for. Had to cover for his struggling centre back partner Hughes on more than one occasion.
Konchesky – 5.5: Gave 110 per cent as always, but tactically suspect as Joe Cole twice darted in behind him. Goes to sleep at times.
Davies – 7.5: Never stopped running all game, and was rewarded with two assists, creating the opener and late leveller for Dempsey.
Etuhu – 6.0: Impressed in the first half, making a number of key challenges, but could not keep up this level after the break.
Murphy – 6.0: Neat and tidy, but bullied for large stretches of the game, and completely over-run in midfield in the second half by Lampard.
Dempsey – 8.5: A game the American will never forget, as he popped up with both goals for his side, including a superb late header to earn an unlikely point.
Zamora – 5.0: Completely anonymous throughout, and it was a mystery just how he managed to stay on the pitch as long as he did before being substituted.
Johnson – 5.5: Like his partner Zamora, a very limited player is Johnson. Chased and harried, but not too much quality. It was all too easy for the Chelsea defenders from open play.
Subs: Andreasen N/A, Nevland N/A, Baird N/A
Cech – 6.0: Aside from picking the ball out of his net twice, did not have a single save to make all game.
Bosingwa – 7.0: Not troubled at all defensively, and useful as an attacking outlet, creating one fine chance for Joe Cole.
Ivanovic – 6.5: Positive performance from the Serb, who comfortably dealt with Johnson and Zamora.
Alex – 6.0: Was dragged around a touch in the first half, before he was forced off with injury, and replaced by Carvalho.
Ashley Cole – 6.0: Not one of his better games. Impulsive at times, and he did not contribute too much offensively.
Mikel – 5.0: A game Mikel will not want to dwell on. Passing-wise he made Momo Sissoko look like Michel Platini. At fault for Dempsey's opener and, while he improved after the break, he stood right in front of Cech for the late equaliser.
Deco – 6.0: Had a bright start to the game, but you cannot help but think that his playmaking skills are made redundant by the presence of a forward-running midfielder in Lampard. Does Deco fit into this Chelsea system?
Lampard – 9.0: Absolutely phenomenal. Must have been fired up by Steven Gerrard's masterclass earlier for Liverpool, as he nearly matched it. Scored twice, created countless chances, fired in shots from all angles, and almost won it at the end even after Dempsey's late leveller.
Joe Cole – 6.5: Hibernating in the first half, but emerged from under his rock after the break, and helped create Lampard's equaliser. Will rue two excellent chances he missed though.
Drogba – 7.0: Caused Hughes all kinds of problems, bullying the defender like a little schoolkid. However, his finishing was poor this afternoon, as he squandered at least three gilt-edged chances. Was also closest to Dempsey at the corner at the end.
Malouda – 6.5: One of Chelsea's better players in the opening stages, creating an excellent early chance for Drogba. Unfortunately, he didn't even last half-an-hour before succumbing to injury.
Subs: Anelka 6.0, Carvalho 7.5, Kalou 6.0
