Wenger Denies Arsenal Move For Liverpool's Keane

Arsene Wenger has shrugged off speculation linking the Gunners with unsettled Robbie Keane.

Liverpool's under-fire striker Robbie Keane has had a tough time of late, but hit back at his critics and speculation linking him with a January exit from Anfield by scoring a great leveller against Arsenal.

The Reds remain atop the Premier League pile after the 1-1 Emirates draw, although Chelsea can leapfrog them with victory over Everton on Monday evening.

Irishman Keane has failed to produce the kind of form which won him a £19 million-plus move to Merseyside from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, with many reports suggesting that he could be set for an instant return to White Hart Lane, or elsewhere.

In fact, one of the shock suitors mentioned in reports has been Sunday's opponents Arsenal.

However, Gunners' gaffer Arsene Wenger has played down talk of a bid for the hit-man.

He is quoted as saying by the Daily Star: "Robbie has not had a good start, but it can happen to any player. Still, he has quality and he is intelligent.

"I don’t feel Liverpool will let him go in January. Do we ask? No."

The move was always a non-starter, it must be said, considering the politics associated with any inter-league move and Wenger's recent rant against massive spending.

On his current striking cover, Wenger added: "We have players like Carlos Vela awaiting his chance - he is nearly ready - and Eduardo, who will need time to get back into his stride."
