Sven A Candidate For Sunderland Job?

Former England and Manchester City manager Sven Goran Eriksson could be one of the leading contenders for the managerial job at the Stadium of Light.

According to a report in the British broadsheet the Guardian, Sunderland have received no fewer than 33 serious applications for the vacant managerial position.

With the likes of Peter Reid and Steve McClaren already distancing themselves from the job, it is being claimed that Sven Goran Eriksson is a leading contender.

The British tabloid, The Daily Mail, claims that the Swede has come under pressure to resign from his post as head coach of the Mexican national team following some disappointing results.

While it is claimed in some quarters that former Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce remains a favorite to replace Roy Keane, the Guardian claims that American investor Ellis Short would prefer a well-known foreign coach.

The Sun claims that 61-year-old Dutch manager Co Adriaanse, currently in charge of Red Bull Salzburg, is one of the more favored men to take charge of the Mackems.

Apparently, the Sunderland board are hoping to tease the list of candidates down to a shortlist of just three by Wednesday.
