West Brom Want Carlos Vela On Loan

The Baggies are keen on signing Carlos Vela from Arsenal in a short-term loan deal, according to a report.

West Bromwich Albion are reportedly keen on signing Arsenal’s teenage striker Carlos Vela on loan, according to the News of the World.

The Baggies are struggling this season as they sit bottom of the Premier League, with only 11 goals to their credit so far.

Manager Tony Mowbray is therefore believed to be eager to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window in an attempt to stave off relegation.

With goals a problem, the Albion boss has reportedly turned his attention to Vela, who has impressed with his performances in the Carling Cup this season, and may be keen to gain more playing time.

Vela has made six substitute appearances for the first team so far this season but scored a hat trick on his full debut, in the Gunners' Carling Cup demolition of Sheffield United.

Arsenal have no shortage of attacking options, especially with the preferring starting duo of Emmanuel Adebayor and Robin van Persie now back fit and firing.

Arsene Wenger also possesses the Dane, Nicklas Bendtner, and Croatian striker Eduardo is also nearing a return to fitness, all of which means Vela may find his starting opportunities limited even further this season.

The Mexican spent last year out on loan at Primera Division side Osasuna, but returned to the Emirates this season after having been granted a work permit.

A loan spell at Vela would certainly provide some Premier League experience for the Mexican whilst also helping out West Brom, who despite having Roman Bednar, Ishmael Miller, Luke Moore and Sherjill MacDonald on their books, have struggled in front of goal all season.
