Carrick: I Knew I Was Good Enough
Ex-Spurs star Michael Carrick feels right at home in the Manchester United midfield.
Manchester United's Michael Carrick feels he has established himself in the champions' midfield - and justified both his transfer fee and the faith in his ability shown by manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
North-Easterner Carrick, who began his career at West Ham, was bought by Ferguson for £18 million from Tottenham Hotspur in 2006.
He told Setanta Sports' Friday Football Show: “For me it was just a case of getting on with what I was here for. I’ll always believe that I was good enough to be here.
"I suppose people aren’t mentioning it [the size of the fee] now. Things have gone really well for me."
This weekend, Carrick and his team-mates take on newly-managerless Sunderland, and will be looking to build on last weekend’s crucial victory over Manchester City, a win that enabled the Red Devils to make up ground on Chelsea and Liverpool, who both dropped points.
“It was a good weekend for us," said Carrick.
"We knew going into the City game that it was a huge game for us, not just the game itself but, in terms of our season, we needed to stay in touch and get back to winning ways away from home.
“We managed to do that and to see the other results gave us a little boost. We could have been further behind than we are and now we’re right in touch. It’s up to us to keep applying that pressure.”
