Young Guns Misfired; Wenger Rues Lost Chances

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has spoken of his disappointment with his side's inability to finish their chances.

Arsene Wenger stuck to his principles and fielded a completely changed line up to the one that faced Chelsea in the Premier League.

Jack Wilshere, Mark Randall, Fran Merida, and Carlos Vela and co though will not progress to the semi final of the Carling Cup as expected though because they crashed out at the hands of a resilient Burnley side.

Nicklas Bendtner had ample opportunities to open Arsenal's account, as the big Dane was threaded through and had numerous one on one opportunities but Brian Jensen, the Burnley stopper, thwarted all of the Gunners attempts.

After the game, Wenger told Sky Sports: "We had six one-on-ones with the keeper and didn't score.

"We were a bit fragile at the back as well but overall we had plenty of chances," he said.

"We had the potential to go through," Wenger claimed. "They were the best of the three teams we have played so far," he added.

"Many of them have a lot to learn. But the ones who are deserving will get more chances of first team football [in the FA Cup or Premier League."

Premier League duty now resumes this weekend as Arsenal host Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
