Liverpool's Pennant Chased Off Intruders

Jermaine Pennant's mansion was robbed by intruders but the winger was alert and chased them off.

Liverpool fringe man Jermaine Pennant has told the Daily Mirror that his £3 million 'stronghold' was targeted by people armed with wire-cutters looking to drive off with his sports-cars and pilfer his expensive wares.

He and fiancee Amii Groves, a model, were asleep when the would-be thieves smashed a large vehicle through their security gate and made a beeline for Pennant's luxury abode.

Once inside the 25-year-old winger dashed to confront them and they apparently fled, diving into their four-by-four and taking off, only to lose control, crash and flee on foot.

"It was scary," the player said, "We were woken up by a huge bang and went downstairs... we’re just glad we’re okay."

Groves added: "Jermaine jumped out of bed and ran down the landing. He was really brave. He raced after them, saw headlights and shouted, 'Call the police!'"

Local police confirmed that the incident had taken place at 1.40am GMT.

The report adds that Reds stars Robbie Keane, Steven Gerrard, Dirk Kuyt, Daniel Agger, Pepe Reina, Lucas Leiva and former players Peter Crouch and Jerzey Dudek have all been subjected to similar ordeals, with varying amounts of damage done and property stolen.
