Robinson To Villa 'Within 48 Hours'

Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill is said to be only hours away from completing the signing of England's former number one Paul Robinson.

Despite concurrent reports suggesting that Aston Villa may turn to West Ham United's Robert Green to solve their goalkeeping problem, the Daily Mirror is claiming that Villa boss Martin O'Neill will tie up a £5million deal for Tottenham Hotspur shot-stopper Paul Robinson within the next 48 hours.

The newspaper says O'Neill will talk to Robinson, out-of-favour at White Hart Lane under manager Juande Ramos, to finalise a transfer to Villa Park.

It has become clear that Robinson has no long-term future with Tottenham, particularly since Ramos has brought in two new keepers in the last week: Heurelho Gomes and Mirko Ranieri.

Robinson lost confidence, form, and his place ion both the England and Tottenham teams over the past year, and has made it clear that he feels moving to Villa would give his career the fresh start it desperately needs.

He has not figured in the Spurs first team since March, while Villa's need for a new goalkeeper is well known, with loanee Scott Carson, between the sticks for the Villans last season, having returned to parent club Liverpool.
