Beckham To Regain Captaincy?

David Beckham could be in line to regain the England captaincy, two years after he stepped down from the post…

The LA Galaxy midfielder captained his country for just under six years before relinquishing his position following England’s quarterfinal exit from the 2006 World Cup.

At 33 years of age, it would be something of a shock if the former Real Madrid man was handed the armband again, especially given the somewhat turbulent relationship between he and coach Fabio Capello during their time at the Bernabeu.

But Becks won over the Italian tactician during his final days in Spain, and has continued to do so both in training and on the pitch with the national team.

Capello has named a different skipper for each of his three matches in charge so far – Steven Gerrard, Rio Ferdinand and John Terry – as he works his way towards deciding who shall get the role full-time.

Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry has been widely tipped to get the nod against Trinidad & Tobago, but The Sun reports that Beckham could earn his 59th cap as captain in Port of Spain this Sunday.

An insider said: “David is in with a definite chance of being captain for this game. He is an option.”
