thumbnail Hello,

Goal.com spoke with Chelsea and Nigeria midfielder after the match against Ethiopia on Tuesday night. Mikel expressed his delight at his team’s progress to the quarterfinals.

John Obi Mikel has told Goal.com that he is happy with the hard-fought win over Ethiopia on Tuesday night. The Nigerians needed two late penalties to sneak into the quarterfinals of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The match ended 2-0 in favor of the Super Eagles. Mikel believes that they need to up their level in the quarterfinals against Ivory Coast.

“I think now that we are in the quarterfinals, we have to keep on what we doing and hopefully we will be successful. We came here to win this cup,” said Mikel.

Mikel also revealed that Victor Moses asked to take penalties following Mikel's disappointing penalty against Zambia in the previous match, but vowed to take them into the future.

“I hope I am going to take penalties in the future, but Victor Moses asked to take them. The most important thing is that we won the game,” added Obi Mikel.
