It might be for a particularly awesome performance or for something praiseworthy off the pitch - either way, the person in question deserves special attention... World Player of the Week #143: Kennedy Mweene
Club: Free State Stars

Gave a virtuoso performance in 2012 Afcon final

Zambia recorded a historic and emotional triumph at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, as it defeated tournament favorites Cote d'Ivoire 8-7 on penalties in the final following a goalless 120 minutes.

Goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene was the star of the show at Stade d'Angondje in Libreville as he kept the Ivorians at bay. He was formidable and strong between the posts and collected everything the opposition threw at him.

Then, during the penalty shoot-out the 27-year-old saved Kolo Toure’s spot-kick that eventually led to the Zambians first ever Afcon title.

Congratulations to Kennedy Mweene,'s 143rd World Player of the Week!
