The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed the final five African players shortlisted for the 2011 African Player of the Years award.

The shortlisted nominees are Olympique Marseille and Ghana midfielder Andre Ayew; Samuel Eto’o of Anzhi Makhachkala; Cameroon, Mali and Barcelona veteran Seydou Keita; Moussa Sow of Lille; and Senegal and Yaya Toure of Manchester City and Ivory Coast. Many see Toure as the favorite.

The shortlists for the 2011 African Player of the Year and 2011 African Player of the Year (based in Africa) were decided by votes from the head coaches or technical directors of the national associations affiliated to CAF.

The CAF Technical, Football and Media Committees decided on the choice of shortlists for the other categories, taking into account the performance of the nominees from January to November, 2011.

The winners will be unveiled at the Awards Gala scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 22 in Ghana. It will be the third time that the Ghanaian capital, Accra, is hosting the annual event, after doing so in 2006 and 2009.
