BLOEMFONTEIN, South Africa—For the most part, the Confederations Cup has been devoid of controversy. No egregious refereeing decisions. No eyebrow-raising results. No doping allegations.

Of course, the Egyptian-prostitute-burglary scandal caused a stir in the local press, but the truth is the most controversial aspect of the entire tournament has had nothing to do with football or any of the teams.

It’s the vuvuzela, the infamous horn South Africans blow incessantly during football matches.

But how does one actually play a vuvuzela? Is it really just a noisemaker? Or is there some artistry in it?
