Australia Down Ghana In Friendly

Australia kicked off their preparations for June’s series of 2010 World Cup qualifiers with a 1-0 win over Ghana in a friendly in Sydney on Friday night.

Mile Sterjovski - Australia and Derby County

The game was a dull affair and decided by a goal a minute after the restart from Mile Sterjovski who fired home from the edge of the area to win the game.

It was a roller-coaster night for the Derby County striker who was sent off for a second bookable offence three minutes from the end.

Sterjovski’s exploits aside, there was little action of note with Harry Kewell being substituted off the pitch after 73 minutes.

The Black Stars were lacklustre and only started to threaten Mark Schwarzer’s goal late in the game.

Australia lead Group One of Asia’s 2010 World Cup qualifiers with four points from two games and host Iraq in Brisbane on June
