Bahrain 4-0 Yemen: Reds Bounce Back From New Zealand Shock In Style
Bahrain fans have something to smile about.
Just four days after their heartbreaking
2010 World Cup elimination at the hands of New Zealand, Bahrain bounced back to
defeat Yemen 4-0 in their 2011 Asian Cup qualifier.
The win maintains the Reds’ 100% record in Group A and puts them level on nine points with leaders Japan, though Bahrain have played a game less.
It took Bahrain just 20 minutes to open the scoring in Manama, Ismail Abdullatif latched on to a pass from Adbulla Fatadi to score.
Fatadi made it two just eight minutes later. Bahrain continued to press and ended the game as a contest just after the hour through substitute Husain Salman.
There was still time to add a fourth as Yemen’s Aref Al Dali scored an own goal to complete a dismal evening for the West Asians and put some sort of smile back on the face of football in Bahrain.
1: Japan 9 2: Bahrain 9 3: Yemen 3 Hong Kong 0
