Iran's New Coach Following Fabio Capello's English Example
There are worse examples to follow than ones set by a certain Italian coach.
New Iran coach Mohammed Mayeli Kohan
is following the example set by England boss Fabio Capellpo when it comes to
managing his team off the pitch.
Mayeli Kohan was appointed as Iran boss last week and has three games in which to salvage Iranian dreams of the 2010 World Cup.
“English players have been forbidden by Capello to use mobile phones while at training camp,” Mayelikohan was quoted as telling Iran state TV.
“Their coach also controls the team’s nourishment programs. English players are not allowed to eat whatever they want. I approve this style in football.”
If the former Saipa supremo is to usher in a new era of professionalism in Team Melli, he hasn’t got long.
The first of the three remaining qualifiers takes place on June 6 in North Korea.
Iran are four points behind their opponents, though they have a game in hand.
The three-time Asian champions are in fourth in Group Two with six points from five games.
Only the top two automatically qualify for South Africa.
