Monterrey's Basanta included in Argentina squad for World Cup qualifiers

The defender for Los Rayados was given his first international call-up by Alejandro Sabella for Argentina's qualifying matches against Venezuela and Bolivia.
Alejandro Sabella has named his 21-man Argentina squad for their upcoming 2014 World Cup qualifying games against Venezuela and Bolivia, and 28-year-old Monterrey defender Jose-Maria Basanta is a surprise inclusion among the usual cast of Albiceleste stars.

Basanta could gain his first cap for his country, and the selection comes in light of news that Newcastle defender Fabricio Coloccini could be out until May.

The squad includes Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuain, Sergio Aguero and Ezequiel Lavezzi. Real Madrid's Angel Di Maria will participate as well, but he will miss the first match through suspension.

Argentina currently tops the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying table and will play Venezuela on March 22 in Buenos Aires before going to Bolivia on March 26.
