The troubled relationship between Carlos Tevez and Manchester City has taken a further downturn, after it was reported that the Argentine has informed the club he is unable to return from his native Buenos Aires.
The striker arrived in Argentina last Tuesday without notifying the Premier League leaders, missing training and risking further disciplinary action just weeks after receiving a two-week fine for his actions in the Champions League match against Bayern Munich.
The forward has not appeared for his club since he refused to come on as a late substitute against Bayern, who won the fixture 2-0 at the Allianz Arena.
FoxSports journalist Silvio Maverino reported via his personal Twitter account that Tevez subsequently sent City a doctor's certificate, explaining that he was "not in a fit state" to leave his home country and resume training with the team.
Neither Tevez nor his employers have commented publicly on the situation.
Meanwhile, Boca Juniors president Jorge Amor Ameal has ruled out an approach for the former Xeneize star, who has also been linked to Corinthians, and according to the chief, Boca do not have the resources to bring Tevez back to Argentine football.
"The numbers are impossible," Ameal told Radio Argentina. "The wages that Carlos earns, and deservedly so, are extremely high and economically they are impossible [to match]."
