thumbnail Hello,

One of the Selecao’s greatest scorers has thrown his support behind a resurgent R9 to return to the national team.

Following Brazil’s impotent display against Ecuador at the weekend in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers, former goalscoring sensation, Romario, has led the calls for Ronaldo to be reinstated to the Selecao.

Romario believes that ‘O Fenomeno’ will not only be able to help the Verde-Amarela in their qualifying campaign, but he could also be a useful figure in South Africa 2010.

“I am certain that if he [Ronaldo] continues to improve his physical and technical form, he could be important for Brazil in the World Cup,” he as quoted as saying by Reuters during his presentation as the managing director of Rio de Janeiro second division side, America.

The 43-year-old Romario also believes that the former Real Madrid and Milan star no longer needs to impress observers with his razzle-dazzle football.

“Towards the end of my career, I did not think about playing well. My only objective was to score goals,” he explained.

“And he has already demonstrated that. He has scored four goals in five games. A player who plays in that position must score goals. That is what’s important.”

Brazil are currently fourth in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying standings with only 16 goals scored after 11 rounds, the fourth worst attacking record in the ten-team group.
