After the resignation of Diego Simeone, after the Copa Sudamericana elimination at the hands of Chivas de Guadalajara, many different coaches have been suggested as possible candidates to replace Simeone.

At first it seemed that Americo Gallego would be appointed as the coach, however, after a reunion with River Plate president, Jose Maria Aguilar on Thursday, it was announced that Nestor Gorosito will take charge.

After Ramon Diaz declared that he wasn't interested in filling the vacancy, Aguilar expressed his intentions of appointing Gorosito.

The actual Argentinos Juniors coach, who was brought up as a player at River, was said to have accepted the offer to become the new coach.

"Pipo" told the Argentinos Juniors directors his decision to take charge of River in January. Gorosito performed well with the club from La Paternal this season, and he guided them to the semi-finals of the Copa Sudamericana.

In the next few days Gorosito will reveal which players will be leaving River, and who he will be taking into consideration for the 2009 Clausura Championship.
